HEY KIDS!

KEY BIBLE TEXT |  Jonah 1:1-3:3

KIDS WORSHIP SERVICE JOURNAL

This week is all about -  God with me and he wants to be with you too. How does God with us happen?

What’s Happening -  God has told Jonah an Israelite to go to Nineveh, a very scary city and tell them to change their ways or else. This week we are going to explore the story of Jonah and see what he did when God asked him to do something he did not want to do.

What do I do when I feel like God is asking me to do something I don't want to do?

Let's explore the story of Jonah and see what he did when God asked him to something he did not want to do.

Words To Remember

I was in danger so I called to the Lord, and he answered me. I was about to die. So I cried to you, and you heard my voice. Jonah 2:2

SHARE the text together in Jonah 1:1-3:3.

Have you ever run away from something or someone? Why and what happened?

Who was Jonah and why was he running away? (Jonah 1:1-2)

Why did Jonah go to Tarshish instead of Nineveh?(Jonah 1:3)

What happened to Jonah on the way to Tarshish?(Jonah 1:4-17)

How long does it take for us to cry out to the lord when things are bad?

What does Jonah mean in 2:4 when he says “I will look again to your holy temple?”

For You -  Have you run away from something that God has wanted you to do?

What is something you think God is asking you to do now?

What steps can you take this week towards doing what God wants you to?

TRY

The story of Jonah encourages me to listen to what is said, especially when God is talking. When we can’t see our hearing gets even better. Try making this tin can telephone and have a conversation with someone you cannot see. Post a picture in our WhatsApp of your telephones working.

PLAY Simon Says

Like most things, listening is something we get really good at the more we do it.

These games are about listening and moving. Have fun playing.

To play Simon Says you need to use all your senses and all your actions to follow Simon.

Choose someone to be Simon. (You can choose any name that you want)

Simon calls out instructions that everyone else must follow only if he says ‘Simon says’ first.

Simon may say ‘clap your hands’ but he could be stomping his feet, so make sure you listen carefully to what is being said.

Red Light Green Light.

Play this game and see how good you are at listening and running.

You will need: At least three players and some open space.

How to play: One person is chosen to be  the traffic light. They stand a good distance away from the other players with their back to them. The other players stand in a line facing the person who is the traffic light

When Traffic Light calls “Green Light',' the other players move towards the Traffic Light until it spins around and calls ‘Red Light.’ When the players hear the Red Light command they must freeze on the spot. Any child seen moving must return to the starting line. The children must remain frozen until the next ‘GreenLight’ Command is given.

Keep playing like this until someone reaches and tags the Traffic Light. The tagger becomes the new Traffic Light and the game begins again.

There are a heap of things to make on our Pinterest page that bring the Jonah story to life - just like this cool paper plate whale!
