HEY KIDS!

KEY BIBLE TEXT | John 19: 1-26

KIDS WORSHIP SERVICE JOURNAL

This week is all about the things we do for love. John Chapter 19 tells how Jesus gave his life for us. Let’s listen in to the story, imagine that we were there, and learn how to live love because Jesus loves us.

Share the text by reading John 19. This chapter tells how Jesus was sentenced to death and how that happened. While you are reading, use a highlighter to mark the points of interest or questions for you.

This is a big chapter! If you're in junior school or a PlayHouse kid you might like to watch the videos in the WATCH section of our connect material.

Words To Remember

John 19:11 Jesus answered, “The only power you have over me is the power given to you by God.”

What’s Happening: Pilate the Roman Governor in Jerusalem was trying to find out why the Jews wanted Jesus dead. Let’s listen in on their conversation by reading verse 7 through to 11.

Why do you think Jesus said “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above”?

Why do you think Jesus chose to die? He could have made himself invisible, or turned the people who were trying to kill him into bunny rabbits.

Have you ever gone somewhere very dark where you cannot see a thing? Sometimes our hallway at home is just like that. It’s very dark and I cannot see anything ahead of me. When the power is off at our house, I need to have a torch so that I can see what is ahead.

Death is just like that. It’s dark and we cannot see or hear or think or breathe or live there. When Jesus chose to die on the cross, he went to the darkest place where there was no life.

Why do you think he did that?

What do you do to show that you love someone?

Check out this kids book and see if it gives you some ideas on how you can show love.

WORSHIP opens your heart and mind to the Holy Spirit.   See if you can follow along with the song and get your family to get their worship dance moves on too. Send us a video of how awesome your worship session is.

TRY fogging up a mirror.

Fog up a mirror and draw a love heart with your name in it.

Jesus died so that you could live.

Feel your breath. Every breath you take is a breath Jesus died for so you can live in love.

Lie on the ground and look at the sky. Look at how big it is and know that as big as the world is, as big as the universe is, it is not bigger than God.

As big as our problems are, they are not bigger than God.

God is in charge and we can choose to let him be the boss of us.

All he asks is that we choose to do a good thing with the breath that he has given us.

What will you choose to do?

PLAY stacks on! (safely!)

You will need people to play with or if there is just one or two of you, get a bunch of pillows and soft toys to pile on top of each other.

Take turns at being the person on the bottom and take care not to hurt the people you are playing with.

How does it feel having the weight of everyone else on top of you?

Know that when Jesus chose to die for us, he took the whole weight of everyone on top of him. And even then death could not hold him down, because the love of Jesus beats death every time.

MAKE a large love heart on the ground or on a window or a mirror. You can use tape, chalk or washable markers. Place all that you love inside the heart. You might put your favourite things inside your heart or you might put your favourite people inside your heart.

Is your heart big enough? Do you need to extend your heart?

Know that Jesus' heart is so big that death could not hold him down.

His heart is so big that everyone ever born could fit in it if they wanted to.

Would you like to live in Jesus’ love heart?
