HEY KIDS!
KEY BIBLE TEXT | John 15:1-17
KIDS WORSHIP SERVICE JOURNAL
This week has been about how we can stay connected. Let’s find out what Jesus tells us about being connected to him.
SHARE the text by reading John 15:1-17 together.
** This is our connect material for our TreeHouse Kids. If you’re a PlayHouse Kid, you might like to watch the video about The Vine and the Branches.**
What’s happening: Jesus has been preparing the disciples for his death and trying to explain to them that he will come back to life forever.
Why do you think Jesus uses the vine and the branches' story to explain?
Have you had to prepare for something that you did not want to?
Our words to remember come from John 16:31-33 Jesus answered,
“So now you believe? Listen to me. A time is coming when you will be scattered. Each of you will be scattered to your own home.
You will leave me. I will be alone. But I am never really alone. Why? Because the Father is with me.
We are never really alone because Jesus has sent the holy spirit to be with us if we want him to be. Just like the vine and the branch.
Jesus said “I told you these things so that you can have peace in me. In this world you will have trouble. But be brave! I have defeated the world!”
What do you think Jesus means when he says he has defeated the world?
WORSHIP opens your heart and mind to the Holy Spirit. See if you can follow along with the song and get your family to get their worship dance moves on too. Send us a video of how awesome your worship session is.
This version by Young and Free is a fresh version of an old favourite. Check it out and sing along.
TRY using Pipe cleaners or Playdough or pop sticks or sticks that have fallen from a tree, to make a tree. What will you use to keep the sticks together? How will you keep your tree from falling over? Does your tree have leaves? Is there any fruit growing on your tree? Now imagine that your tree is bigger than your house.
WATCH the video below about The Vine and the Branches. Imagine how you would tell this story. Work it out and share your story, picture, video or song to Kellyville Kids Whats app group. Can’t wait to see and hear what you come up with.
PLAY a game of sock shooting. You will need a bucket and as many of your socks folded together. Place a mark on the ground where you can throw from and shoot your socks into the bucket. Once you get good at that, move the mark further from the bucket and go again. See how good your family is at sock shooting. These socks did not choose to be in the bucket, in fact they were quite cozy folded up in the draw. You chose to get them out and throw them in. We get to choose every minute of every day to be in Jesus. Sounds weird doesn’t it. All that means is that we choose to live in love.
Imagine that the bucket is full of water. What would happen to the socks? Thats right they would soak up the water and be dripping wet.
When we live in Jesus' love, we soak up all that is good and our reason for being here is to squeeze out love wherever we are. We do this by being kind, doing good and putting others first. That means we give, we share and we care.
MAKE a family tree. The story of the vine and branches is Jesus telling us that we are connected to him, just like a branch on a tree or a vine. Think about the people in your family and in your community. Can you fit them all in your tree. Jesus' family tree is big enough and strong enough for everyone ever born. Can you imagine a tree that big?
