Hey Kids

This week is all about - wanting to do the right thing not just for ourselves, but for others too.

Jesus tells us that doing the right thing will bring us satisfaction.

Let’s explore what doing the right thing means and what satisfaction is.

Bible Texts - Matthew 5:6

Jars of Oil-2 Kings 4:1-7-The beginners Bible

Those who want to do right more than anything else are happy.

God will fully satisfy them. Matt 5:6 ICB

Here are the Beatitudes taken from Matthew chapter 5 (ICB)

TreeHouse Kids Connect - Squad & Tribe What does satisfied mean? A simple definition is that we don't need anything else, we are content.

Look up Matthew 5:6 and see how we can be satisfied and how God will make that happen.

Share these questions with your friends and think about what you want more than anything else.

Make - First Responders Hats.

Make - Marshmallow Guy

This video is kind of corny and very sweet, especially if you like Marshmallows. Check out the lesson we can learn from a marshmallow. It’s pretty cool!

Try being a superhero this week (you might like to make a superhero mask & cape) & help out a friend who is being dealt with unjustly. Like Natalia in this week's Words to Remember video, your friend might have had a toy snatched from them and is sad they no longer have their toy. Talk to the child that has snatched your friend's toy. Ask them to kindly to give the toy back, because what they did is not right, and ask them to say sorry. You might like to give yourself a superhero name, like Justice Kid!

 Build an obstacle course.

Get some ideas on what to use from this video. Time how fast you can successfully complete your course.

Are you ever tempted to take short cuts, skip a difficult part of the race or peak through your blindfold when you are playing a game?

Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:6 that wanting to do the right thing will make us happy and God will satisfy us.

It doesn’t say that doing the right thing perfectly will make us happy. It says wanting to do the right thing more than anything will make us happy. And God will satisfy us.

God knows what our heart wants.

He wants us to do the right thing because we want to, not because someone is watching or we think it makes us better than anyone else.

Jesus wants us to do the right thing because that is who we are when we love Jesus.

Watch this video and guess the feelings.

Can you think of words to describe all the emotions that you have just seen? Sometimes we don’t have the words to describe how we are feeling.

Jesus knows how we are feeling and why we feel that way even we we don’t know ourselves. Sometimes we just feel really horrible or sick to the stomach and we don’t know why. Jesus does and He waits for us to ask him for help.

Try talking to Jesus about how you are feeling, he is always listening and he knows exactly how to help.

In this book, George, the main character, creates a cardboard box. When the other children come and try to play in the box, George turns them away because of their outward characteristics. The story teaches that everyone looks different & it is hurtful when others are treated poorly because they are a girl, have red hair etc.

Play: Get together with a group of friends and make your own cardboard box to play a game of everyone in. Make sure everyone is involved in creating the box.

Option 1 You can have one child make sure that no one is left out for anything. Have other children try & exclude children based on certain things. The inclusive child is the one who represents the person who thirsts for justice in this week's Beatitude. Book & game idea taken from number 2 here: https://www.educationworld.com/a_lesson/social-justice-activities-students.shtml

Option 2 After listening to the story together create your own box house. How do we play with the box and with each other? Have we learnt anything from the story?

Play your favourite games with your family and friends. How does it feel to play with people who you can count on to do the right thing. to not hide the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle or to cheat in monopoly.

This weeks words to remember remind us always to want to do the right thing, to think about what the right thing is and how we can do that.

How much would our day change if every one wanted to do the right thing by each other?
