HEY KIDS!

KEY BIBLE TEXT | Exodus 2:11-25 (MOSES) or 1 samuel 1 (hannah)

KIDS WORSHIP SERVICE JOURNAL

Our trailblazers this week are Hannah and Moses.

This week is all about - what we choose to do when everything around you seems to be bad. Hannah prays for a promise.  Moses chooses to fight violence with violence. What would you have done if it was you.  Let’s explore the stories and see what it says to us right now.

What’s Happening - Moses has grown up in Pharaoh's palace. One day he sees that his people are slaves in terrible conditions. Moses reacts to violence with violence. Hannah wants to be a Mum more than anything else. What is easy for everyone else seems to be impossible for her. Hannah prays for a promise from God and makes a promise to God.

Has there ever been a time for you when you got angry and did something you wish you hadn't?

Let’s get into  Exodus 2:11-25   and see what we can find out about Moses and God’s plans for him.

The Story.

Did Moses know he was a Hebrew even though he grew up as an Egyptian? (vs11)

Why did Moses murder the Egyptian? (vs11)

Did Pharaoh find out? (vs 15)

Where did Moses run to, to flee from Pharaoh? (vs 15)

When Moses went to sit by the well, what did he do that was kind? (vs17)

So we see that Moses cared for others – even though he did wrong when he murdered a man, he seems to want to help those in need – that characteristic of caring for others is a good quality that Moses had!

Who did Moses live with? (vs 18-21)

Who did Moses marry? (vs 21)

What was the name of Moses son? (vs 22)

What happened to the king of Egypt (Pharaoh)? (vs 23)

Who heard the groaning of the Hebrews? (vs 24)

What was God's plan? (vs 25)

Questions For You:

Should Moses have murdered the Egyptian?(Exodus 20:13)

Moses murdered the Egyptian because he got angry.

Is it ok to get Angry?

Mark 3:5 ESV And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

This verse is talking about Jesus. He was angry with people being hard hearted, mean in spirit. Instead of lashing out at them in anger, he healed. Jesus always does a good thing. He calls us to do the same.

Is it ok to get angry and hurt someone or break something?

Ephesians 4:26 When you are angry, do not sin. And do not go on being angry all day.

What could Moses have done instead to make his anger go away?

Count to 10 slowly / Do breathing exercises, Big breathe in and slowly let it out, keep doing this till you don't feel cross anymore

(Step in between the two men and tell the Egyptian to stop, pray to God, go to the Pharaoh and ask him to speak to the Egyptians about the way they were treating their slaves.)

What can we do today when we see something wrong happening?

(Same thing – go to authorities and ask for help, try to mediate and separate the two who are arguing, pray to God, talk to parents about it.

Know that God wants to help you do a good thing when things are bad. He will help you do just that.

TREEHOUSE KIDS

TRY placing this Map of Australia over Egypt and Saudi Arabia. . Move it over other parts of the world to see how big Australia is. Go for a 1 km walk and time how long it takes you.

Interesting fact. Saudi Arabia is where Moses ran away to. In Moses time the area was called Midian. See if you can try to work out far Moses walked. How long would it take you to walk the same distance using your timed walk as a guide?

PLAYHOUSE KIDS

TRY to balance. You could balance on a log, some rocks or on a step. When you are balancing, it’s important to try stay still and concentrate. Sometimes we get a bit wobbly and we fall off but that’s okay, we can get back up again and have another go! God is with us all the time, even when things get a bit wobbly.

PLAY & MAKE The Inside Out Game Of Emotions

You will need to follow the instructions to make and play the game.

What are emotions?

Can you name them?

We have lots of different emotions and they are all okay to have. Sometimes we act on our emotions straight away but we need to take a moment to think 1. How they make us feel and 2. What they make us want to do. Ask yourself, does that emotion make you want to do a good thing or a not so good thing? If it's good and will make others happy, go ahead and do it. If it's not nice and will make others sad or cross, then think about how we can make that feeling go away without having to do the not nice thing.

Why not have a family movie night and watch the movie Inside Out and learn more about our emotions.

Our Story ends in chapter 2 with Moses married and growing a family. Read on in chapter 3 and see how God gets Moses attention.

Make this 3D Burning Bush. Follow the instructions and see how God is getting your attention.

Hannahs-Prayer-craft-1-2.png

Sometimes we don’t have the words to say how we feel. Even when we don’t know how to say it, God knows how we feel. Let’s always ask Him to show us the way. Have a go at making this craft of Hannah and remember that when we talk to God, He understands.

We would love to see you playing, trying, making and sharing! Please share your photos with your KellyvilleKids community in our WhatsApp Group. If you’re new to our KellyvilleKids community and would like to stay connected, contact zan@kellyville.church
