Hey Kids

This week is all about -  thinking good thoughts. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:8 that those who are pure in their thinking are happy. They will be with God. Let’s explore what pure thinking is and how we can choose what we think.

  • Draw a big heart on a piece of paper. Inside the heart write or draw the things that help you feel close to God. Outside the heart write or draw things you would like to avoid so you can feel God’s presence. When you feel bored look at this drawing and choose an activity that helps you feel close to God.

  • How to Make the Folding Craft Stick Canvas:

    1. Cut the one-inch masking into 4-inch pieces.

    2. Place two sticks together, side by side, and tape them together covering both the sticks with the tape.

    3. Turn the two sticks over so that they are diagonal to you.

    4. Place another craft stick next to and below the two sticks that you taped together. Use another piece of tape to tape the bottom two sticks together.

    5. Turn all three sticks over diagonally and place another stick at the bottom of the row and tape the last two sticks together. Keep going until you have a whole row of sticks.

    6. You can also cover the first and last stick in the row by placing tape over the stick and then folding it back over the stick. It is easier to write on the tape than the craft stick. The ink soaks into the sticks and blurs.Children can use permanent markers, pens, or colored pencils to write the Bible verse on the sticks and then decorate them. They can also draw a picture on the back of the sticks that represent the Ten Commandments.

If a child messes up while working on his canvas, you can pull off the tape where he messed up and replace it with new tape.

Make these butterflies and see how the colours merge together to make a beautiful pattern.

When we choose to be kind all the time, just like the water on the paper, kindness brings people together in the best way, and that is beautiful!

Make - Marshmallow Guy

This video is kind of corny and very sweet, especially if you like Marshmallows. Check out the lesson we can learn from a marshmallow. It’s pretty cool!

Try being a superhero this week (you might like to make a superhero mask & cape) & help out a friend who is being dealt with unjustly. Like Natalia in this week's Words to Remember video, your friend might have had a toy snatched from them and is sad they no longer have their toy. Talk to the child that has snatched your friend's toy. Ask them to kindly to give the toy back, because what they did is not right, and ask them to say sorry. You might like to give yourself a superhero name, like Justice Kid!

If another person does something bad to you this week, show them mercy!

Tell them you don't like what they did, and that it was the wrong thing to do, but like Jesus does & wants us to do, forgive them & continue to be their friend.

 Build an obstacle course.

Are you ever tempted to take short cuts, skip a difficult part of the race or peak through your blindfold when you are playing a game?

When someone makes it hard for you to play or even worse cheats during the game. What do you do?

Jesus tells us in the Beatitudes how to play like him. Whatever game you are playing today, play your best and encourage others to do the same. If they don’t, be merciful towards them. Remember all the times that you have not done your best, or you cheated, or you were a bad sport and then choose to be kind and get on with the game.

Play the Mercy Game.

To play this game you will need a large open safe space for kids to run.

Make one Mercy Label and two Mean labels. These are to be worn by the kids.

The mercy label is taped to a child who is at one end of the playground.

The mean labels are taped to two other kids who are in between the mercy child and everyone else.

The rest of the children line up at the opposite end from the Mercy child.

To begin the game the mercy child calls out “Mercy Me”

The children who are lined up are to run toward the Mercy child as the safe place is when you are standing behind the Mercy child.

While the kids are running, the mean kids role is to tag as many kids as possible.

If you get tagged you get to sit out for the rest of the game. ( You could add these kids as taggers if the kids are old enough)

There is a safe option where the kids who are running can yell “have mercy on me” if they are about to be tagged. They can only yell this once while they are running.

Have fun with this game. Get as many people as you can to play no matter what age they are. We can all do with a lot more mercy in our day.

Play your favourite games with your family and friends. How does it feel to play with people who you can count on to do the right thing. to not hide the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle or to cheat in monopoly.

This weeks words to remember remind us always to want to do the right thing, to think about what the right thing is and how we can do that.

How much would our day change if every one wanted to do the right thing by each other?
